0 MANGO THOKKU


Raw Mango - 2
Cumin seeds - 1 tbsp
Methi/fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tbsp
Asafoetida - few sprinkles
Red chillies - 5 or 6
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad dhal - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves - few
Salt as needed
Oil - 1 tbsp

As you all know that this is the mango season, so you can try out all your favourite dishes with mango. My friend Senthil's mom is here from India and when we had been recently to her place, saw this dish ready to be grabbed by us all. It was really tasty , my mom also makes this dish very similar as hers.

Dry roast cumin seeds , red chillies until it turns light brown, next add methi seeds and asafoetida, fry for some more time... make sure that methi seeds does not get dark( or it will be bitter). If you are not able to know how much of red chillies to use, then you can substitute the same with red chilli powder( no need to fry them, can directly add to the mango)... cool and powder in a dry mixer.

My mom does not powder anything, she just adds mustard seeds, urad dhal, curry leaves,when the pop out adds asafoetida and methi seeds powder in oil and add then the grated mango along with salt and chilli powder, fries them till it is soft.

Remove/peel mango skin, then grate it finely.
Heat a tbsp of oil and add mustard seeds, urad dhal and curry leaves, 2 broken red chillies when they pop out, add the grated mango and also the powdered ingredients ... fry well till mangoes are soft and tender ... also add salt and turmeric powder... fry them in low flame so you do not burn them... cook well and cool to store them ...
